FAQs on Turkey Tours

Is Turkey a good destination for families?

With its sandy beaches, warm Mediterranean waters and diverse landscapes, Turkey is a great destination for families, especially for those that love outdoor activities. Whether you want to relax in the sun or try your hand at sea kayaking, canyoning and snorkelling, you’ll find plenty of things to keep you and the children occupied along the Turquoise Coast. There are also lots of ancient sites for the history lovers to explore or you can head up into the mountains on foot or by bike to enjoy breathtaking views. Alternatively, set off on an adrenaline-fuelled jeep safari through the Saklikent Gorge.

When is the best time to visit Turkey?

Between July and August, temperatures can get extremely hot in Turkey which might not be suitable for some activities. However, you’re less likely to see rainstorms during the summer months. Spring and autumn are the best times to enjoy Turkey tours as the landscapes are still beautiful, the temperatures are cooler and there are fewer tourists on the beaches. It does tend to get quite chilly in the evenings though and there’s always a chance of rain.

What are the best things to do in Istanbul?

This vibrant city is packed with historical sites, lively markets and striking architecture, so you’re never short of things to do in Istanbul. Walk through the old city, Sultanahmet, to see the famous Blue Mosque and Hagia Sophia Mosque, the Roman Hippodrome and the Egyptian Obelisk of Theodosius. With over 3,000 stalls selling books, spices and handmade jewellery, the Grand Bazaar is another sight not to be missed when exploring the city. Overlooking the coast, the Topkapi Palace is rich in Ottoman history, and you can wander through the chamber houses and see the collections of jewels, weaponry and religious artefacts.

Where is Cappadocia in Turkey?

Home to one of most spectacular geological sites in the Middle East and the eastern Mediterranean, Cappadocia is located on the plateau of the Taurus Mountains at the town of Goreme in the centre of Anatolia. The region is famous for its fairy chimneys which pierce the skyline above Monks Valley and Goreme with their distinctive rock towers.

Where’s the best place for walking in Turkey?

With an idyllic coastline, mountainous interior and ancient sites, Turkey is a fantastic destination for walking with a wide range of places to choose from. The Turquoise Coast leads you along sun-drenched shores to Roman, Byzantine and Ottoman ruins and between vibrant towns where you can enjoy traditional Turkish cuisine at one of the tavernas. Goreme Open Air Museum is a magnificent place to explore on foot and as well as boasting wonderful views over the valley, it’s also home to cave churches adorned with Byzantine frescoes. Walk through the distinctive landscape of Cappadocia, made up of unusual rock formations, or trek along the ancient trade route of the Lycian Way.

What are the highlights of Turkey?

Whether you prefer to be exploring hidden coves along the coast or seeking out historical gems, there are endless things to see and do in Turkey. Some of the main highlights include Istanbul’s beautiful mosques and ancient landmarks in the old city, the magical fairy chimneys at Cappadocia, and the cave churches at Goreme Open Air Museum. The picturesque port of Kas has a relaxed atmosphere and is perfect for water-based activities but if you want to delve deeper into the Turkey’s history, visit the Roman baths, tombs and Cleopatra’s Pool at Pamukkale.
