Those on the group flights will be met in Naples airport by the tour leader. A transfer of approximately 1hr 20min takes us to Hotel Due Torri, our base for the week in the village of Bomerano, on the Agerola plains above the Amalfi Coast. Enjoy a warm welcome from local hosts the Acampora family before settling in.

Start in the village of Bomerano, Agerola
Enjoy a warm welcome from our local hosts, the Acampora family, who run our base for the week, Hotel Due Torri. If you have time, you may want to get out and explore the village, Bomerano, a quaint retreat high in the hills and away from the often-busy Amalfi Coast below. Once everyone’s ready, we enjoy a welcome briefing at the hotel – a great chance to get to know the group a little, meet our leader and ask any questions you may have.

An impressive walk to the top of Monte Tre Calli for wide-open views of the coastline
From the hotel, it’s a short stroll to the village square (or, in Bomerano’s case, a triangle) and the start of today’s walk. The circular route provides a good chance to stretch our legs; following a mixture of paths and tracks, we summit Monte Tre Calli to be rewarded with wide-open views of the jagged coastline and seemingly endless blue sea. The Agerola Plain and Bomerano are laid out below us and, on a clear day, we can see as far as Capri, an idyllic island hideout for many celebrated artists and writers over the past 200 years. After admiring the majestic scenery, descend to Bomerano and enjoy a rest before a hearty dinner.
Follow mule tracks and steps down to Amalfi; free afternoon to explore
We walk towards Amalfi, a town popular with the British since Edwardian times when the upper classes favoured it as a pleasant place to spend their winters. The route has a downhill bias, following the path from Bomerano at 2,297ft (700m) to the Mediterranean shores, accompanied by wonderful coastal views. There are approximately 2,000 steps today, but also plenty of opportunities to rest and go at your own pace. On arrival, we see the large duomo (cathedral) dominating the town with a brightly tiled cupola (dome), which, along with the baroque facade and interior, is a typical example of regional architecture. Take time to explore the town, swim in the small bay or enjoy a gelato before a transfer back to Bomerano.
Visit the Mount Vesuvius crater, admire the Bay of Naples and see the Pompeii ruins
We transfer to the slopes of Vesuvius to view the volcanic crater, which also overlooks the beautiful Bay of Naples, the waters of which span between Naples, the regional capital, and Sorrento, the town famed for lemon groves. Depending on weather conditions, it may be possible to join an expert volcanologist on an extended walk around the caldera and beyond (optional).
After lunch, we travel by bus to Pompeii. On the lower foothills of the volcano, it was a thriving port town until Vesuvius catastrophically erupted over two days in 79CE and the city was buried in ash and pumice. Lost for 1,700 years, it is now a UNESCO World Heritage site, the preserved remains providing an amazing insight into life in a Roman city, complete with bathhouses, bakeries and homes – some of which still have walls adorned with detailed frescoes. You may explore the site this afternoon, perhaps opting for a detailed tour accompanied by a local guide.
Walk from Ravello to Amalfi through the forests of the Valle delle Ferriere nature reserve
Today’s walk starts in Ravello, a town favoured by the Bloomsbury set and other artists and intellectuals due to its secluded location and inspirational scenery. Before setting off for the walk, we have free time to explore the town and visit Villa Cimbrone or Villa Rufolo with their meticulously landscaped gardens and breathtaking sea views (optional). The route today is mostly downhill with a considerable number of steps. After descending and taking a quick stop in Pontone village, we continue along wooden bridges and shady paths carpeted with wildflowers in season, to the beautiful moss-clad waterfalls within the closed gates of Valle delle Ferriere nature reserve. Finally, following the stream gently downwards through lemon groves, past the shells of former paper factories (a major local industry from the 12th to 19th centuries) and medieval ironworks, we reach Amalfi.
Free day to relax or take a boat to Capri, visit Naples or Herculaneum (all optional)
Enjoy a day at leisure to relax at the hotel or go to the seafront. The hotel also offers a range of private transfers to some of the most popular attractions in the region. Options include visiting Herculaneum, which was also destroyed during the Vesuvius eruption. The city was buried in mud rather than ash; some say this led to the site being even better preserved than the bigger Pompeii. You might instead choose to take a ferry to the chic island of Capri and the funicular through lemon groves up to Capri town. Furthermore, Sorrento or the National Archaeological Museum of Naples are also possible.
Please note, all these optional excursions are subject to availability and payable locally (activity prices are dependent on the number of people joining). The tour leader will assist you with bookings and arrangements. Alternatively, spend the day by the pool or in true Italian style in a cafe, sipping espresso and watching the world pass.
Path of the Gods with superb panoramic views to Positano; return by boat to Amalfi; try locally made mozzarella
We take one of the finest walks on the planet. Leaving the hotel, it’s a short stroll through quiet Bomerano before we join the Sentiero degli Dei (Path of the Gods), which provides some of the most evocative views in the world: ragged cliffs speckled with tiny villages and extensive vistas of the sparkling Mediterranean. The route follows rolling hills, the contours of the land and the coast. The trail is broken by insights into local life, passing shepherd huts and ancient stone houses carved into the limestone before we descend a long series of steps to colourful Positano, an almost vertical town clinging to the rockface of a sheltered bay. Take time to explore the alleyways lined with wisteria and designer boutiques or have a dip in the sea before returning to Bomerano by boat and bus (seasonal) in the late afternoon. Before dinner, we can see how the local smoked mozzarella is made and taste the mouth-wateringly fresh final product.

This morning marks our last breakfast at the hotel. We transfer to Naples and fly back to London.

This morning is our last at the hotel, which may feel more like a second home by now. If your flight leaves later this evening, you’re welcome to make use of the hotel facilities after check-out and enjoy an optional lunch here. Getting to Hotel Due Torri
Hotel Due Torri is approximately a one-hour drive from the airport. Your options for this journey are:
Take an Exodus transfer
- Exodus provides one group arrival transfer from the airport, which is timed to coincide with the arrival of a chosen flight from London, UK. You may join this transfer at no extra cost, provided you can be at the airport before the transfer leaves.
- Additionally, there are two more shared airport transfers to Hotel Due Torri, which can be booked for an extra cost (about €42 per person). Speak to your sales representative for the times and prices of these two shared transfers.
Make your own way
It’s possible to reach the start hotel by public transport, but the journey is complicated. We therefore recommend joining the group transfers where possible. If not, contact your sales representative before departure to arrange a private pick-up on arrival. This costs between €80 and €160 depending on the number of people sharing the vehicle. For more information on joining this trip, please speak to your sales representative.
Catching your return flight
- There’s a group departure transfer to the airport that’s scheduled to align with a flight to London, UK. You can join this transfer at no extra cost. Please speak to your sales representative for times and to confirm your seat.
- Alternatively, we have two more shared transfers to the airport, which you can join for an extra cost (about €42).
If the departure transfers do not suit your flight time, speak to your sales representative to arrange a private transfer.

Hotel Due Torri, a family-run three-star albergo in Bomerano
We spend seven nights at Hotel Due Torri, a mid-sized hotel run by the welcoming Acampora family, who turn out authentic Campanian dishes in the restaurant and put on a show with their fun pizza-making demonstrations.
It sits in Bomerano, a peaceful village that forms part of the Agerola municipality, up in the hills and away from the often-bustling Amalfi Coast.
Being higher up, the hotel benefits from cooler nights, although beaches are not too far away. There is a small heated outdoor pool (usually open from mid-April to mid-October) and energy is generated by a solar panel system.
The 41 rooms vary in style and size and are spread across two main buildings and two cosy apartments a short walk from the main hotel. A limited number of superior rooms, which include a hot tub, power shower and fridge, are also available for a supplement payable before departure. Please ask your sales representative for further information.

Walking the Amalfi Coast, based in Bomerano
A very ghood trip, every day was excellent. Hotel & food very good and really friendly staff. Best part was Tony, our Guide, a very relaxed approach but everything under control. In particular his invitations to meet his local contacts each day for our lunchtime sandwich / beer was an unexpected bonus. The Lunch in a Lemon Grove was the highlight. Exodus should encourage this approach – meeting the local population, buying a beer and chatting.

Every day was as good as the previous one, no average days. Learning about Volcanoes, standing on Vesuvius listening to Ciro, a proper Volacanologist, was another unexpected pleasure. The Walk of the Gods was everything we hoped for and Ravello was the best town, unspoilt. All organised by Tony.

As stated above, Tony made our trip so much more enjoyable and relaxing - no maps required, no rush and no bus timetables! His local knowledge was very deep. His Yorkshire humour wasn't bad either!
Advice for Potential Travellers
We had no negative issues at all. The one restaurant in the town, family run, is also highly recommended for lunch on your arrival day, try the Latte Mozzarella Cheese, handmade 200 metres away!

Roberta was a delight. Perpetually cheerful, knowledgeable and happy to share what she knows, well organized, attentive to people's individual needs. She was instrumental in organizing the day-off trip to Herculaneum. After she heard about the van driver's mistakes that lead to dropping us off in the wrong place causing us to lose precious time at the site, she apologized for the screw-up (though it wasn't her fault) and arranged refunds for some of the money we shelled out for trip. Not having her present on the free day illustrated how much we relied on her taking care of myriad details behind the scenes.
Advice for Potential Travellers
Every hiking trip has its challenging ascents/descents. The walk down the mountain to Amalfi is this trip's challenge--because of the 2,000 stairs. Even if you're fit, this atypical descent can place stress on your legs/feet. By all means, use poles. (The hotel actually has some available.)
My Amalfi Coast Trip
Overall it was phenomenal, the perfect time of year and amazing hikes. The Hotel Due Torri was a wonderful spot with incredible people working there. However, I personally thought the food was not good and had asked for a gluten free diet but was not given one. Most of the issues I had were the fault of Exodus not the leader or anything else. The other HUGE problem was the disparity of the athletic ability of the group, as a result of this, on the day of the Path of the Gods, we were hours late and this prevented us from truly enjoying the hike and missing out on the events we had not time for. There needs to be TWO leaders and an assessment of the pariticipants. While I loved our leader Roberta, her solution to this problem was to force those of us who were more athletic to the end of the pack! At one point she said my energy was bothering those who were slow and there was no regard for those of us who wanted to move ahead. The focus was always on the needs of those who were struggling as opposed to those of us who met the criteria set by Exodus in order to comfortably hike the designated paths. This was incredibly frustrating! Those of us who met the criteria for the trip were punished and those who did not were accomodated over and over again. The other issue I had was the lack of transportation options provided to and from the airport. While the trip says transfers are included this is not really the case. I was told to wait five hours in the Naples airport for my free transfer! This was my first day in Italy and there was no way I was waiting in an airport, it cost me 160 euros to get to the hotel. Then on the way back, again no accomodations were made despite multiple emails prior to my trip asking for the transfer. I asked for reimbursement at a minimum for the 70 Euros it cost me to get to my hotel but that was refused.
I think for the most part Exodus does a good job of arranging these trips but greater efforts must be made to ensure the athletic level is compatiable and transfers fro everyone are provided.

There were many! The Path of the Gods, the hike to the top of the other mountain, the leader, Stephano, on the Mt. Vesuvius hike was incredible in his knowledge and his willingness to move the group along and not dawdle and waste time. The town of Bomerano and the lovely room I stayed in were really wonderful.

As mentioned in other reviews some of the walks are a bit challenging – mainly on the descent – this was our first walking holiday and after the first day had concerns about if we could stay the course . We did – and whilst still challenging we did enjoy it . Many thanks to our group leader Roberta who kept us safe and informed throughout and maintained a sense of humour even in the face of group moaning ! Hotel is good in respect of all staff who are lovely and service which is great – drinks reasonably priced and cocktails good . Cleanliness and cleaning also excellent . Food was sometimes excellent and sometimes a bit monotonous – especially breakfast . Our room wasn’t brilliant – too small – no drawers and particularly difficult on wet day with nowhere to hang anything to dry out . Other rooms much better . Our group mix was excellent a highlight of the holiday . Overall a good trip with just a few niggly bits

Our group was very fortunate to have Veriano as our leader. His enthusiasm and knowledge was limitless. Always conscious of everyone's wellbeing and safety, and was especially encouraging when having to tackle the vast number of steps on the Amalfi Coast!!

Our leader was all right, but from what we gathered from other groups, we seem to have got a more basic service. I didn't have the impression from his responses to my questions that he was terribly interested in sharing the local culture that much. Also, we were a mixed group (not a problem and we all got on very well), with a wide range of ages (from mid 20s to mid 60s) and a wide range of abilities. Some of us were slower than others during the walks. And the biggest issue was that our leader seemed to be happier to spend his time at the front with the fatest ones, leaving the slowest ones at the back, on their own. Which could have been dangerous in particular with the uneven terrain we were going through. As we were 2 walking groups I am a bit puzzled as to why a test walk wasn't done at the beginning, and groups rescheffuled according to abilities.
Advice for Potential Travellers
To come physically very well prepared. Attendees will be requested virtually straightaway to walk several hours, on uneven terrain, through 600 to 800 m elevations. These are not moderate walks for your average sedentary customer. And even for the reasonably prepared, 2 hours of going down uneven steps can leave your legs shaking and your calves sore for a few days!
